Greetings Friends of Pride San Antonio---

May 1, 2020

First and foremost, we want to thank the San Antonio LGBT Community for their continued support of Pride San Antonio and Pride Bigger Than Texas throughout the years. Our thoughts and concerns are with our community and its overall health and wellbeing during this distressing era brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic. We have had numerous calls and website inquiries from many concerned individuals and organizations regarding our upcoming Pride-related events and the Pride Bigger Than Texas 2020 Festival and Parade.

With respect to Pride Bigger Than Texas 2020, we have been closely monitoring the situation and we remain in constant contact with the City of San Antonio and Bexar County officials. We work very closely with these entities on a regular basis with the planning of this annual event. The current situation our nation and community are facing is of great concern to us. We completely support the plans, goals, and directives of the Federal, State, and local governments with respect to handling the effects and impact of COVID-19. We are complying with all city, county, state, and federal guidelines.  But the Board of Directors of Pride San Antonio Inc. has come to an important decision regarding Pride Bigger Than Texas 2020. In an effort to maximize the safety and wellbeing of our community and to continue to control the spread of COVID-19 we have opted to move Pride Bigger Than Texas 2020 to a virtual platform.

So with the support of our community, our beneficiaries, and our sponsors such as USAA, Bonham Exchange, Luther’s Café, HEAT Nightclub, Sparky’s Pub, Knockout, and Budweiser, we invite you to celebrate Pride Bigger Than Texas 2020-“Celebrate PRIDE365” on June 27, 2020. We will be working with Global Pride as part of 24-hour digital worldwide Pride initiative which will take place also on June 27, 2020. As many of you know Pride Bigger Than Texas raises money for 8 local charities and nonprofits and Pride Bigger Than Texas 2020-“Celebrate PRIDE365” is no different. Donations will be encouraged and allowed during this event. This event will be broadcast live from multiple locations (utilizing proper social distancing guidelines as allowed) from Luther’s Café, HEAT Nightclub, and the historic Bonham Exchange. This event will feature presentations from our 2020 Beneficiaries, local elected officials, performances by local talent, and of course our Pride Bigger Than Texas Emcees-Autumn Summers, Eryca Daniels, and George Perez. We will also have some special guest presentations from The Original Cover Girls who were originally scheduled to perform at Crockett Park, Tejano Legend Shelly Lares, and by special appearance from Season 14 of The Voice, vocalist Angel Bonilla.

It is important that we stand with our community and understand that while our official PRIDE celebration comes once a year, we believe in PRIDE throughout the year. We have PRIDE in our accomplishments and are PROUD to live our truths 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Our most important concern and priority is the safety, security, health, and overall well-being of our community and nation. Our Board of Directors feel that this decision is in the best interest of our community and this will allow us all to move through these trying times and look with great PRIDE and Positivity to 2021. We produce “Pride” events throughout the year including the San Antonio QFest-LGBT International Film Festival, the San Antonio PRIDE Softball League, San Antonio PRIDE Women’s Softball League, and the Pride San Antonio Basketball League. And while Pride Bigger Than Texas at Crockett Park is an official marker of San Antonio PRIDE we look forward to everyone joining us for this alternative Pride event-“Pride Bigger Than Texas-Celebrate PRIDE 365” on June 27, 2020. More details will be forthcoming regarding the exact times and streaming platforms.

Remember Pride San Antonio raises money for 8 local nonprofits and charities and our biggest event of the year is Pride Bigger Than Texas. In the past 16 years we have given over $240,000 to local nonprofits.
